This sculpted stone of birds and rats is just one of the commemorations of animals I will be discussing at a free talk at the National Army Museum in Chelsea on 11 October at 12.30. Using images of statues, gravestones, plaques and troughs from Australia, Britain, America, New Zealand  and France I will explore what such memorials are really remembering. (The exhibition about War Horse is still on and worth catching, as I discuss in a recent article in Anthrozoos).
