Reflection of Christchurch, Spitalfields March 2012

The unusual circumstances of Spitalfields weavers

Find below a summary of a talk given on Saturday March 12 2005 as part of Network of Oxford Women for Peace and Justice ‘s one day forum on ‘Sweated Labour: Women Workers in the Garment Trade’. Spitalfields weavers are interesting not least because of the pay levels they were able to command at certain periods both through riot and the use of legal agreements.

The references and further details can be read in Making History in Bethnal Green. Also see my book London Stories.
